Morning in Leave, Zimbabwe
We're nearing the end of our trip: while Victoria Falls is coming to life, we head into town to browse shops selling souvenirs and ethnic items. There might be something interesting there, but at prices that are completely unreasonable; what we really wanted to experience, we saw and lived in the days before, where the silence, the vast spaces, the starry skies, and the presence of many wild animals were the common thread of this adventure. Yes, it was also an adventure because it was our first time in Africa, and for the first time, we organized ourselves with a tent to accompany us. It was definitely the best way to experience the atmosphere of the place and feel integrated into this world that somehow brought us back to our roots. If we can make the most of this experience, we can face tomorrow with more informality, without any pretensions, feeling part of a universe that doesn't necessarily have to conform to imposed clichés. Perhaps the "Africa bug" consists in this feeling, the need to detach from the cities and escape into an ideal world, where there are rules dictated by nature and instinct. Where the lion will continue to hunt the gazelle and never become vegan.
The airport at Victoria Falls is located about 20 kilometers south of the city and is a true cathedral in the desert, with the gates that are calling the huts, in a beautiful blend of history and present, between local culture and globalization.
