We return to the "urban" civilization of Ulaanbaatar: a modest capital of a country that proudly embraces its rural character.

Stopover in Ulaanbaatar

The weather doesn't improve and the low clouds don't allow us to see much of the Baga Gazryn Chuluu. We set off at 6:30 under a light rain that will accompany us throughout the morning, for returning so, to Ulaanbaatar Lunch at a Chinese restaurant, one of those that showcase this cuisine, which has been made cheap by Chinese restaurateurs who offer low-cost food here. Shopping at the State Department stores and the Gobi factory outlet for cashmere products. We return to the hotel for a shower and to try to fit all our clothes (which are now just rags) into our suitcase. We meet Tulga in the lobby, with whom we have a long conversation to explain all the advantages and few disadvantages of this trip. He is a very pleasant person, with whom we feel immediately comfortable and with whom we would never stop talking. Even at the farewell dinner at the California Restaurant, there are always topics to discuss, and we spend the evening chatting. Sometimes he asks questions that contain more explanations than answers, but also help us to understand topics that we consider obvious: such as why most Italian fashion designers work in Milan? There are many other famous places in the world, so why does fashion originate from there? Even though Milan is only about 100 km away, it's a world away from Mongolia, I find it difficult to find an answer. Perhaps it's the Italian imagination rather than tradition. I never imagined asking this question of a Mongolian, whose official uniform, the deel, is a legacy of Chinese domination in previous centuries, and someone might remember that it was imposed during a period of occupation. But is there fashion or a way to launch a fashion?
