For those accustomed to visiting high-altitude areas, it's necessary to explain your trip to friends before departing for Sri Lanka, a destination known especially for its beaches and the so-called "relax" vacation. However, detailed preparation of the journey has led us to consider its historical aspects related to ancient archaeological sites, rather than a mix of religions that are not found elsewhere, which have coexisted and contrasted for millennia. Furthermore, the appeal of the wildlife in the National Parks, with their diverse vegetation zones and the opportunity to witness sunrise on a mountain (which we couldn't deny), along with climbing the 5500 steps with pilgrims during a night where the heat experienced at the start combines with the freezing wind at the top. The walk transcends into spirituality, and seeing the sphere rise endlessly regenerates our energy. Although the beautiful view of the sea is only fleeting in the last two days.
But once again, it was wonderful to visit the country and get to know its people, enjoy the friendliness of the Sri Lankans, and discuss various topics with them, understand how they live and what are the fundamentals of their culture. The concerns that preceded our departure, related to a country torn apart by hatred and endless wars, were immediately dispelled by the smiles of the cheerful people, just like the equatorial sun that accompanied us throughout the journey. One question remains unanswered: How did the Sri Lankans and Tamils manage to discriminate against each other, fight, and kill each other for over 2000 years? From this perspective, our stay on the island was too short to fully understand their reasons, which were sometimes ancient.
