"They spend all their time at war, and without wars, they fight each other." Description of the Scottish people written around 1500.
Sometimes the present reality of people doesn't exactly reflect what history tells us about them. And so it happens that we learn that the Scottish are characterized by internal wars between clans or against England, but in reality, we find ourselves facing ordinary people within an organized society. We didn't expect to find modern-day Bravehearts, but their combination of fair play and healthy national pride has positively impressed us.
