Day 12
Jasper National Park
Jasper National Park: mountains, glaciers, lakes, rivers and forests. The ultimate example of nature's beauty.
Stop at Jasper National Park
Departure at 7:45, it's raining and there is low fog. After 150 km we reach Hinton, where we secure the hotel reservation. On the way, we have a fourth encounter with a black bear and several other animals. Unfortunately, it continues to rain, and from Hinton we enter the JASPER National Park heading towards Miette Hot Springs, hot springs with a beautiful view that we can only imagine due to the clouds preventing us from seeing it. We immediately go to Jasper for a look at the town amidst the nauseating smell of cooking sausages and the bright shop windows. Here we make the right decision: we head west on Yellowhead Hwy 16 towards Yellowhead Pass to enter the MT. ROBSON Provincial Park approximately 80 km, and arrive near the magnificent Mount Robson where the Fraser River originates, the most beautiful mountain in Canada and higher than the Canadian Rockies, almost 4000 meters.

Jasper National Park and Maligne Lake
Meanwhile, the weather has cleared up, although the summit of Mt. Robson is still hidden, but it seems to be so unpredictable that it changes almost every day of the year. We see a Fraser River waterfall where salmon swim upstream and experience the changing weather by taking a refreshing shower when the sky finally appears clear. We return to Yellowhead Pass to reach Jasper: we head south on Maligne Lake Drive for 44 km into the valley and, in 30 minutes, you arrive at Maligne Lake, nestled in a beautiful... enchanting landscape. One of the iconic images of Canada is Spirit Island, which is part of this lake. Also, the Medicine Lake attracts some photos. On the way back, we stop at a Maligne Canyon for a walk along the fissures that water and time have carved. On the way back, we encounter a duck with the small and diverse ones wapiti (deer) that wander between the road and the nearby fields. After reaching Highway 16, we came across two magnificent specimens of male wapiti, the ones with horns They rise up amidst the grass. The animals are clearly visible in this setting. a landscape bathed in the sunset glow makes it special. Every corner deserves a photo. The shadows stretch, adding magnificent colors to the lakes, which reflect the surrounding mountains. It's almost 7 pm, but I don't feel tired, thanks to all this beauty. We arrive at our accommodation in Hinton, at the Hinton Highway Inn, around 8 pm and go to enjoy another delicious steak (this time a rib-eye).
